A Monochromatic Look to Elevate your Photo Shoot Outfit

You’ve made the investment in booking a photo shoot and now you need to decide what to wear. You don’t want to break the bank, but you still want to look really good.

In comes monochromatic wardrobes - putting together a look that uses only one color. Dressing monochromatically is far from boring! It’s a modern, easier and faster way to put together an outfit while still helping you look expensive and luxurious.

So, how do you achieve a monochromatic look? Keep reading… :)

Start with a color

Choose a color that you love/have the most of in your closet or that really flatters your skin tone and create outfits from there.

It is super important to understand that your colors don’t need to match completely. You can choose different hues within the same family and pull of an ultra balanced and chic look.

Creating a balanced and expensive looking outfit

Choose different hues and shades of one color and mix in a variety of textures. For example: mocha linen pants, a cocoa blouse, and a camel leather shoe.

Creating a look with one color

Wear the exact same color from head to toe in a top, bottom, and jacket and then pair this with makeup, jewelry, shoes, and a backdrop in different hues of the color of your outfit to bring the focus entirely on you.

Emphasizing certain characteristics

If you are putting together an outfit with different hues and textures of a color, you can easily show off different parts of your body by highlighting them in a more vibrant or lighter shade.

To look smaller in certain areas, choose dark shades within your chosen color palette and pair this with clothes that are an ideal fit for you.

Adding Prints

When it is chosen well, a print can add a subtle sparkle to your outfit without overwhelming the image and taking the focus off of you. For this option, my advice is to add one printed piece as an accessory or under a main item. For example, a big striped top with a textured skirt and a long solid jacket over the top of it all.

Keep in mind that small dots or lines can become distorted in the camera and throw a viewer’s eyes into chaos. I say, stick to bigger patterns or even just heavy textures.
