Behind the Photos

Hi! I’m Kristen Scott, photographer and owner of The 2654 Project. I began photographing people over fourteen years ago and recently moved into a studio space to truly focus on the art of portraiture.

I have always had a deep love and passion for portraits. From the framed photos on my grandparents’ hallway wall to the paintings in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, I am inspired by the timeless quality of capturing a person’s personality and state of being in a single image.

I have most recently used this inspiration to photograph headshots in a more modern and authentic way. Everyone needs a really great photo that actually looks like themselves. Am I right? But not all headshots have to be stiff and serious and overly “corporate” looking. I love the challenge of moving from a traditional shot to making my headshots look more like portraits capturing personality, mannerisms, and depth.

Inspired by my own journey as a woman/wife/mother and my desire to empower other authentic women, I love to photograph female portraits the most!

“Kristen has a gift for helping people feel comfortable. She is personable while still remaining professional. She made the entire experience feel warm and friendly and made it easy to trust her direction.”

— Megan, mother of boys ages 6 months - 4 years old

Kristen is best known for her minimalistic approach; warm personality; her talent in taking classic, natural, and honest photos; and her ability to create images that evoke connection and emotion.

What is The 2654 Project?

In 2010, my husband, Matt, and I began THE 2654 PROJECT as a business to house our art forms of photography, music, and carpentry.

Our philosophy is simple: be inspired by others, share real life experiences, care deeply for people, work hard, find adventure in the ordinary, and create. THE 2654 PROJECT is how we began to blend all of these ideas and create through the mediums of photography, music, and carpentry.

Over the last 14 years, my photography business has grown and become the main focus of our business. You can read more about my photography here.

Matt is currently working for a non-profit ministry, but continues to create music and hone his carpentry skills with beautiful furniture. You can email him at matthewedwardscott@gmail.com to learn more about his song-writing, his 90’s country band, and to see his carpentry portfolio.

We currently live in Old Town Bluffton, SC with our son, Emerson, and our daughter, Ashton.

Why 2654?

Those were the numbers of our first address as a married couple. No really, it’s true! Ha!

We were married in 2007 and spent our first year of married life in a quaint, white cottage on Ralston Road in Mobile, AL. The four black numbers on that bright, red door read 2654. It was there that we began creating art together. We thought it would be special to name our business after the place it originated!

When we moved to Bluffton and my photography really began to grow, we thought about changing the name to something more specific. But before we knew it, The 2654 Project name caught on like wildfire and it felt too unique and fun to change.
